How A Digital Health Solution Is Helping To Save Women's Lives In Kenya
We are thrilled to share the exciting news that Pascal Koenig, our esteemed Chair of the Board of Directors, has been featured in Forbes for his role as a co-founder of Malaica, a digital health startup making a significant impact in Kenya!
The Forbes article titled “How A Digital Health Solution Is Helping To Save Women’s Lives In Kenya” highlights the groundbreaking work being done by Malaica to address the alarming maternal mortality rates in the region. Pascal, together with Dr. Lorraine Muluka and other visionary entrepreneurs, founded Malaica with a shared mission to improve women’s health outcomes.
Malaica’s innovative solution connects pregnant women with personal midwives who provide continuous guidance and support throughout their pregnancy journey. Through regular WhatsApp chats and video calls, these dedicated midwives offer valuable information, address concerns, and ensure the women receive appropriate medical care, even if they lack health insurance.
The impact of Malaica’s intervention is already evident, as showcased by a success story featured in the article. A woman experiencing symptoms of preeclampsia, thanks to the trust she had in her assigned midwife, sought timely care at a recommended clinic. Prompt intervention saved both her and the baby, highlighting the vital role Malaica plays in identifying urgent cases and ensuring timely access to necessary care.
Furthermore, Malaica leverages technology to provide regular pregnancy-related information through WhatsApp, empowering women with knowledge about their changing bodies and the stages of pregnancy.
With approximately 200 pregnant women currently benefiting from Malaica’s program, the startup has ambitious plans for expansion. Through their next investment round, they aim to reach 20,000 women, ensuring even greater impact in the lives of expectant mothers. Malaica intends to utilize AI techniques, such as ChatGPT, to provide personalized answers to common pregnancy-related questions, allowing midwives to focus on more complex cases and provide efficient support.
We are incredibly proud of Pascal Koenig’s involvement in Malaica and the transformative work being done to save women’s lives in Kenya. This recognition in Forbes underscores the importance of their mission and the positive impact they are making in the field of digital health. Read below:
