Position description:

We are looking for a self-driven and result-oriented professional who is excited to become part of a rapidly growing startup at the cutting edge of biotechnology and data science, and who is passionate about transforming the one-size-fits-all healthcare system by enabling targeted and personalized clinical applications. In this role, you will lead the Biomarker discovery team and will be accountable for the execution of our Biomarker discovery projects, as well as for the interactions and expansion of our clinical partner network. As part of Scailyte’s management team, you will interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders and together with the CEO, you will define and implement our long-term strategy for becoming a leader in the field of single-cell biomarker discovery and analysis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Proactively manage the execution of Scailyte’s biomarker discovery and scientific projects
  • Define the strategy and manage our biomarker discovery portfolio
  • Manage and develop the interactions with our clinical research partners
  • Collaborate with commercial, quality assurance functions, identify, validate, partner with external laboratories involved in clinical trials and companion diagnostic development
  • Ensure robust and consistent workflow for data generation, explore and establish data generation using new methods for biomarker discovery (e.g. spatial transcriptomics)
  • Work closely with the Data Science team to ensure data quality and scientific validity of findings, as well as to support the biological interpretation of the results
  • Secure non-dilutive funds for our research projects (grant applications)
  • Identify patentable insights and inventions and secure our intellectual property in collaboration with our patent lawyers
  • Engage in extensive outreach to attract research and industry partnerships
  • Continuously monitor the competitive landscape of the market
  • Attend important events to advance knowledge and increase visibility

Requirements:

  • We are looking for passionate, creative and driven people who are ready to embark on an ambitious and high-impact journey by joining a multi-disciplinary team at the heart of the biomedical industry in Basel, Switzerland.

    Skills and competences:

    • PhD or MD/PhD, with 3-5 years of experience in biomedical science and/or companion diagnostics, experience in Immunology or Oncology, including biomarkers.
    • Minimum of 2 years industry experience within a biotech or pharma environment
    • Advanced understanding of molecular biology including experience with NGS based methods
    • Project management experience
    • Proven people leadership capabilities
    • Excellent communication (writing and presentation)
    • Strong networking skills – be able to build and expand professional network
    • Ready to travel internationally (20- 30%)
    • Very good English (oral & written), any additional language very beneficial, especially German and/or French

Only candidates with a valid Swiss work permit (or EU/ Swiss citizens) will be considered.

The ideal candidate will also have:

    • Project management certification
    • Experience with grant applications
    • Basic bioinformatics knowledge
    • Knowledge of GCPs
    • Experience in developing assays for molecular diagnostics
